Numurkah Solar Farm is one of Victoria’s largest solar farms, with its 100 MW (AC) capacity delivering power and LGCs to the Laverton Steelworks and LGCs for Melbourne’s Tram Network. Downer are the head EPC and O&M Contractor and the project commenced operations in May 2019.

Key local participation outcomes included:

  • Major contracts awarded to local suppliers – Apex (earthmoving), BPS (civil), Watters (electrical) and Cardwells (Transport) providing each with their first large-scale renewable capability which they are now tendering to other projects in Victoria
  • Watters Electrical had 120 local workers on site at peak and took on eleven 1st year Apprentices
  • Rich River Piling had 12 local staff and took on 12 additional trades assistants
  • Currently 6 FTE ongoing operational staff, all local

The project was recently profiled by ABC TV’s 7.30 program and their report provides a good overview of the outcomes that Neoen considered and contextual approach, working in partnership with the EPC contractor, is able to deliver.
